Every year, we sponsor an event at the Brighton Festival, which runs throughout May in Brighton and Hove, and gives us the chance to support new, inspiring and artistic performers.
This year is no exception, and we are delighted to sponsor Johnny's Midnight Goggles by SharpWire. This one-man operatic thriller is described in The Guardian as "an intoxicating and intimate passion play of sound, song, movement and video."
A mind- and genre-melting mix of story-telling, ravishing singing, virtuoso cello-playing and sonic wizardry. Witty, nailbiting and entrancing. Johnny's been kidnapped, the Black Camel of Takrilakastan has showed up and a mysterious pair of goggles has opened a portal to another world. Midnight is fast approaching and the chase is on to rescue Johnny. Returning with their third show, SharpWire are cellist/singer/theatre performer, Matthew Sharp and writer/composer, Pete M Wyer. Renowned for their "astonishingly comprehensive versatility" (Daily Telegraph) and uniquely rich cross-disciplinary explorations, their spellbinding work has been acclaimed around the world. SharpWire have been hailed as one of the most original acts in years, combining breath-taking physical, vocal and instrumental virtuosity. In Johnny's Midnight Goggles expect a rattle-bag of operatic yarns – Scheherezade meets your favourite bedtime story. Voice, cello, technical wizardry...and a rocking chair. Huddle round for strange, intimate and epic tales of the unexpected.

Final Cut is a short film-screening event that takes place in the city of Brighton & Hove on Sunday every month at the Komedia, Gardener Street, Brighton. Its aim is to provide an opportunity for film makers, mainly those living and/or working in the South East of the UK, to show their work to other film makers and the general public. Established in October 2002, Final Cut has now become the largest screening event of its kind on the south coast. Facilitate are sponsors of their website.
The Lion Ward at King's College Hospital, London was the recipient of the 2006 Facilitate charity donation. The choice was very personal for one of Facilitate's staff Morag Chambers whose daughter Eleanor had successful neurosurgery at King's to treat intractable epilepsy during the Summer of 2006.
During her daughter's recovery on the ward Morag was struck by the enormous challenges facing children, parents and staff as they tried to stimulate children with very complex neurological conditions to play with and gain pleasure from their environment. Traditional toys and games are often not appropriate for kids with very complex medical needs. In consultation with the hospital Facilitate's donation was used to part-fund a sensory play and therapy room.
